Purpose

  • Analyzes demographic, clinical, and laboratory information and assigns a Transfusion Risk Group (TRG) creating an individual patient profile

  • Defines requirements for phenotype-based donor selection

  • Provides a mechanism to create and analyze the patient profile of a service area (collective patient profile)

Patient Profile Content

  • Demographics, clinical, and laboratory information

  • Transfusion conditions, derived from the relevant reported information from the transfusion categories (demographics, diagnosis, alloimmunization, drug)

  • Assigned TRG, determined by matching patient information to TRG classification

  • Phenotype

  • Required level and specifics of recipient blood typing, for proper
    donor selection to ensure a safe transfusion and prevention of
    undesirable effects of alloimmunization

  • Blood typing information sufficiency evaluated against TRG requirements

  • Impossible, improbable, and rare antigen combinations
    (i.e., E-e-, C-c-, Jk(a-b-), M-N-

  • Double Population (DP) condition and autoantibody presence
