Main Functions

Recommends RBC unit cryopreservation:
Identifies refrigerated RBC units that should be cryopreserved and recommends changing their storage method to cryopreservation. -
Identifies cryopreserved RBC units that should not be kept cryopreserved and recommends them for immediate use.

Identifies RBC unit phenotypes that are in strong demand for both planned and emergency transfusions (based on seven antigens: ABO, RhD, K, C/c, E/e).

Identifies rare blood types and antigen combinations
(i.e., E-e-, C-c-, Jk(a-b-), M-N-). -
Recommends the degree of typing for a specific unit
(whether RBCs should be phenotyped in addition to ABO, Rh, and Kell for Kidd, Duffy, MNS, and other blood groups)
